Cosmic Angels and Aquatic Demons: Close Encounters of the Wet Kind

Many UFO sightings occur near or on the water. Is this more than just a coincidence?
Unidentified Submerged Object

Ever since UFOs began to achieve the cult popularity they are notorious for today, the public assumption has been that they are of extraterrestrial nature, space ships from another world, harboring alien pilots and advanced technology. However, with over 40 years of space exploration in our history, we have never discovered a clue to indicate UFOs are from space.

As I hinted in a previous post, the deepest oceans of Earth are just as virgin to exploration as outer space is. This means the possibilities for our oceans are just as real as those for the infinite cosmos, albeit on a smaller scale. The aquatic race of humans I proposed originating from Aquatic Ape Theory may exist beneath the waves, living in a dark society parallel to our own on the surface.

Knowing the role the stars play in this universe, we can understand that the Aquatic Apes of this story have evolved in a world of shadows, shunned by the warmth of the sun. In fact, they are so deprived of cosmic energy that starlight of any kind is toxic to their health, an overwhelming energy that deteriorates their essence. Because of this effect the starlight has on them, the darkest oceans provide a safe home to these creatures, but it also acts as a prison, confining them within the most secret dwellings of Earth, lest they burn in the stray rays of sunlight that pierce the seafloor.

This parallel society has evolved slowly, alongside our own on the surface. In more archaic times limited knowledge of Aquatic Apes may have contributed to the mermaid legend, which I referenced in last week's post as an inspiration for this story. Up until recently, Aquatic Apes have been living beneath the waves, unknown to the rest of the world. Like humans, they have been progressing as a civilization, wanting to break the barriers of their existence and see what awaits their race. With a progressive civilization comes progressive technologies, possibly even a type of submersible-plane hybrid vehicle which allows pilots to breach the surface without suffering from the harmful rays of the sun.

This vehicle would likely be mistaken for a UFO by humans, and the popular culture associated with the UFO phenomenon would keep people from scouring the seafloor to find answers. Their attention would be drawn to the stars while Aquatic Apes continued their mission.

What Do They Want?

Whether you believe in UFO's, USO's, or none of them, one of the things no one can seem to agree upon is the intentions of whoever is behind the mystery. Are they scouting Earth before they bring the fleet? Are they abducting people for a sinister purpose? Is there something else entirely?

If we consider Aquatic Apes a parallel civilization to our own, it's likely they would eventually start to look beyond the confines of their home on the seafloor. Exploration and progress would become a new priority for them, and their sub-plane UFO vehicles provide the means for both. As the creatures begin to rise from the ocean, protected within their aero-hydrodynamic craft, no doubt the first thing they would notice would be the abundance of human civilization. A race parallel their own, that can live in freedom under the sun without the threat of cosmic poisoning, would seem a very formidable people to learn from.

I believe the first thing Aquatic Apes would want to know about humanity is how, as such a similar race to them, we can survive under the gaze of the stars. Naturally, the way science teaches us how things work is to take them apart and reverse-engineer them, so the same methods may be employed by Aquatic Apes looking to understand our anatomy. This theory behind alien abductions melds into the unfolding story of this universe so well, and will become a central element for my two main characters to deal with.

More to come next week, readers!
